Discover the main website pages you need if you are about to launch your new digital home.

As a website designer, I create high-converting Showit websites for my clients every day. Every single one includes the must-have web pages designed to attract visitors and turn browsers into buyers.

So let’s get the lowdown on the key website pages you need for a dynamic digital presence…and why you need them.

What Are The Main Website Pages Every Business Needs to Succeed?

Each web page plays a significant role in growing your business online and providing a first-class user experience.

While each business should customise which website pages it includes (i.e. a portfolio to showcase your phenomenal photographs), the core web pages you need are:

Home Page

First impressions count and your Home Page is one of THE most essential website pages.

It’s your digital ‘Hi, welcome to my brand’ to potential customers. So make it a good one! (though please don’t put that sentence in your website copy, IYKYK)

A good Home Page sets the tone for your brand. It should clearly communicate:

  • What you do
  • Who you help
  • Why they need you

Keep the copy clear and engaging, and don’t try to cram too much. This is just a taster of what’s to come.

Guide readers through the Home page with a well-structured layout for easy navigation.

Offer insights into your services, testimonials to add credibility and a compelling Call to Action. Think links to Services Page, Email sign up etc.

Leave potential clients knowing enough…but wanting more.

About Page

An About Page is where you tell your story, build trust and connect with visitors on a more personal level.

If a visitor is here, they want to know more about you. Share the story behind your brand.

  • Highlight your expertise.
  • What’s your ‘why’? Why do you do what you do?
  • What’s your brand mission?
  • What has your brand accomplished so far?

Remember, your reader is a potential customer deciding whether you can help them. So, keep it engaging and relevant to their needs.

Don’t be afraid to add some personal, fun elements to add a human touch. What’s your favourite place?  Or drink?

You never know. You may find a fellow margarita lover… (Hi!)

Contact Page

Your Contact Page should encourage engagement and make communication effortless.

This web page has one job – make it easy for visitors to contact you. So include a user-friendly contact form with fields for name, email address and any questions.

Outline your relevant business contact details: email address, phone number, business hours and address for alternative ways to reach out. If you don’t want to add your full address, including the broad area or timezone can be a great alternative, especially when working with international clients.

Most of my emails these days seem to include a little “What timezone are you in? Are we doing a Zoom call in morning pyjamas or just before dinner?”

Adding social media links is a great way to encourage further interaction. Tease behind-the-scenes fun, exclusive offers or the latest product news.

Services/Product Page

This is what it’s all about!

A web page designed to convert visitors by showcasing what your business has to offer.

Lay out each product or service with a clear description and professional images. Remember to highlight the benefits, not just the fantastic features

Most importantly, it should include a clear call to action. i.e. Buy Now, to increase conversion potential.

Let’s not be shy here; you’re a business with something to sell. So, this is one of the most vital website pages your business should have.

Blog

Is a blog really one of the ‘main website pages’? ( I heard you..!)

Well, that depends on your viewpoint.

If boosting your SEO and establishing your brand as a trusted authority is part of your game plan, then yes

A blog can increase engagement and conversion potential, so it’s an important addition to your main website pages.

But if you don’t want any of the above, then no, it’s not essential. 😉

Seriously, though, regularly posting valuable content on a blog can be an SEO game-changer.

A blog showcases your expertise, creates linking opportunities and can dramatically improve your SEO.

Opt In Page

An Opt-In Page is essential for growing your email list.

Make it easy for visitors to sign up with a simple form and direct call-to-action. Throw in a compelling discount offer to make it even more tempting.

‘Sign up now and receive a 20% Exclusive Email Subscriber Discount.’

Building a solid email list gives your business a powerful tool to nurture leads into paying customers.

Legal Pages

I know it’s not exciting, but Legal Pages must be on your main website pages list.

Transparency and compliance with regulations give users trust in your brand, knowing how their data is used.

It also protects your business from potential legal issues, which I know you can do without.

What legal pages do I need on my website?

Include:

  • Data Protection/Privacy Policy – How and why data is collected.
  • Cookie Policy – Explain how cookies are used on your site.
  • Terms and Conditions – Outline your business terms.

Legal page requirements vary by country. Check with your country’s regulatory body overseeing digital compliance for more guidance.

For example, consult the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office) website if you’re UK-based.

So, we’ve covered the main website pages your business website needs to fulfil its maximum potential.

But what other website pages should you include to go that extra mile..?

Bonus Web Pages You Need For Top-Notch User Experience.

These are totally worth adding in my opinion because it makes your audience feel important, which they are.

Custom Thank You Pages

Custom Thank You Pages provides a human touch. And will make your customer feel truly appreciated.

So, rather than a generic thank you message, set up a custom thank you page after an email sign-up, enquiry, or product purchase.

And see it as an opportunity to redirect and retain engagement rather than signal the end of their journey. Include:

  • An Invitation to follow you on social media
  • A link to blog posts
  • A special offer for repeat purchases
  • Product recommendations

A little effort goes a long way to leaving a positive impression on customers – meaning they’ll want to come back.

FAQs

If you don’t want to repeatedly answer the same questions (believe me, it will happen!), you need to add a FAQ page to your main website pages list.

Addressing common questions upfront will save you valuable customer service time. It also improves your customer’s user experience, making a conversion more likely.

Include key questions to optimise your SEO and help rank higher in Google search results.

And, think like your ideal customer

What fundamental questions would they ask about you, your brand and your product/service? Then answer clearly and honestly.
